Dressing wheels have geometrically undefined cutting edges with a polycrystalline surface. The profile, angles, radii and distances are measured directly on the dressing wheels or indirectly on the ground-in coupon. The requirements for measurement uncertainty are very high due to the very low tolerances of approx. 5 µm. The same applies to the measurement time requirements, as measurements are usually taken during the process. The surface of the dressing wheels, which is in part highly reflective and in part transparent, places special features on the sensors.
